The National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg and University of Trier will kindly host this special international meeting uniting two leading conferences in European Herpetology. The SEH European Congress of Herpetology is held every two years in different European countries since 1979. Deutscher Herpetologentag is equivalent to the annual meeting of the German herpetological society, taking place the 47th time in 2011. This will be the first joint meeting of these two important societies and we expect an extraordinary milestone meeting in European Herpetology.
Most of the congress will take place at the Neumünster Abbey cultural centre next to National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg (MNHN). Key note lectures and symposiums will take place during one day at the University of Trier at the Petrisberg, some 40 kilometres from Luxembourg in the Mosel Valley, and will be turned out well with a herp party (transport will be arranged).
Invited speakers. Richard Griffiths – amphibian ex situ conservation; Andrew Storfer – landscape genetics; Miguel Vences – integrative taxonomy.
Key notes and organisers of special symposiums. Salvador Carranza – phylogeography of European herps; Trent Garner – the amphibian chytrid fungus; Ylenia Chiari – turtle biology.
Program. Note that immediately after the international scientific herp congress, from Friday to Sunday (September 30th to October 2nd), the DGHT-Nachzuchttagung will take place at Trier, a herpetocultural conference with focus on keeping/breeding herps in captivity and watching them in the wild (conference language is German). Visitors of the SEH European Congress of Herpetology / DGHT Deutscher Herpetologentag are welcome to attend this meeting. Likewise, visitors of the DGHT-Nachzuchttagung are welcome to join the scientific meeting from Wednesday evening on.
Registration and call for papers. Early bird registration – note the fair fee – and submission of contributions end at May 31st 2011.
Conference focus will be any field in Herpetology. Conference language will be English. An abstract volume will be provided upon arrival; please note that there will be no proceedings volume.
